About the Founder: Rhys Lewis, Ph.D.
Rhys Lewis started the Better Tenant Screening project in February of 2009.
- Ph.D. in Industrial & Organizational Psychology (Note: Industrial and Organizational Psychology is the field of science responsible for the creation and validation of selection tools for employment)
- Canadian Psychological Association
- Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology
- Senior Assessment Scientist for 4 years (and ongoing) at Sigma Assessment Systems - a test publisher of pre-employment, leadership development, vocational interest, and clinical assessments
- Managing rental properties since 2007 (both as a landlord and property manager)
- Was a tenant before becoming a landlord
- 7 years managing all web content for an online life insurance brokerage firm (CLIC Insurance Services Inc.)
- Hobbies include HTML, php, MySQL, Java, Javascript, search engine optimization and search engine promotion
Current activities
Better Tenant Screening is currently a research and development project. It involves participating landlords, property managers, and tenant screening companies. Once the products are developed, Better Tenant Screening will be a test publisher. Products will be sold (a) directly through this web site and (b) though integrating them into packages offered by other tenant screening companies.

- We have finished interviewing landlords/property managers about what they want our tenant selection tests to predict. Thank you to all those who participated.
- We are currently surveying landlords/property managers on their existing tenant selection procedures.
- We are looking for feedback on our proposed model and tenant screening reports.
We are gathering residential application forms currently used by landlords/property managers. By comparing forms already in use, we hope to gain insight on:
- The best ways to frame questions, and
- What questions landlords/property managers might like the option of including in their application forms.
